Mount Zion Praise
Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may come in!
The Story Behind the Image
This whimsical and joyful artwork depicts worshippers dancing, celebrating, and praising on the ancient walls and rooftops of Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The scene is alive with color, movement, and unbridled joy as people of all ages lift their hands, wave flags, play instruments, and dance with abandon. The inscription declares Psalm 24:7-10: "Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may come in! Who is the King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory."
This is celebration on covenant ground—a picture of what happens when the people of God gather on Mount Zion to worship the King of Glory with everything they have!
Mount Zion is one of the most significant locations in all of Scripture—the City of David, the place where the Temple stood, the mountain of God's dwelling, and the prophetic symbol of God's eternal Kingdom. It is the place where heaven and earth meet, where worship ascends, and where the King of Glory is enthroned on the praises of His people.
The worshippers scattered across the ancient walls and rooftops represent the diversity, creativity, and freedom of worship. Some are dancing with flags, some are lifting their hands in surrender, some are playing instruments, some are kneeling in reverence, and some are simply standing in awe. This is not choreographed or controlled—this is spontaneous, joyful, wholehearted worship.
The golden glow over the city represents the glory of God resting on Mount Zion. The vibrant colors of the worshippers' clothing represent the beauty, diversity, and creativity of God's people. The ancient stones represent the faithfulness of God across generations—the same stones that witnessed King David dancing before the Lord, the same walls that heard the Levites sing, the same city where the King of Glory will one day return.
Psalm 24 is a processional psalm—a song sung as the Ark of the Covenant was carried into Jerusalem. The people would cry out, "Lift up your heads, O gates! Open wide, O ancient doors! The King of Glory is coming in!" And the response would echo back: "Who is this King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty! The Lord mighty in battle! The Lord of Hosts—He is the King of Glory!"
This image captures that same spirit of exuberant, unashamed, wholehearted worship. It's fun, it's whimsical, it's joyful—because worship is meant to be a celebration, not a performance. It's meant to be freedom, not formality. It's meant to be joy, not duty.
This image is a declaration: The King of Glory is worthy of our wildest praise! Lift up your heads! Open the gates! Let the celebration begin!
