Under His Wings – Psalm 91 | Origin, Meaning & Artwork by Constance Woods
Under His Wings

The Origin of the Image
Under His Wings began with a photograph taken on January 12, 2010, at the Austin Zoo in Texas.

During a quiet moment on a trip with my husband, I captured the intricate beauty of a peacock’s feathers. That image later became the foundation for something I did not yet understand.
As I worked in digital painting, I felt led by the Holy Spirit to transform the photograph—layer by layer, color by color—into what became these wings. I was not following a plan. I was responding to a leading.
At the time, I did not fully understand what I was creating.
The Revelation That Followed
About a year later, during a time of deep worship, I was given a vision of the throne room of heaven.
I saw a powerful angel with silver hair worshipping Yahweh. As he worshipped, his wings shifted—moving between deep, vibrant hues of blue, aqua, purple, and silver into transparency, and then back again.
As I watched, I realized something unexpected.
These were the very wings I had painted the year before.
What I had created in obedience, without full understanding, had been a glimpse—given in advance—of something I would later see in the Spirit.
The Meaning of the Image
Under His Wings reveals the covering presence of God.
Psalm 91 speaks of dwelling in the secret place of the Most High—of resting under the shadow of the Almighty, covered and protected by His presence.
These wings are not only symbolic of protection.
They speak of nearness, intimacy, and refuge.
To be under His wings is to be:
-
covered
-
held
-
hidden in His presence
It is a place of rest, not striving.
A place of safety, not fear.
Color and Glory
The colors within the wings reflect the beauty and majesty of God’s presence.
-
Blue and aqua — the heavenly realm, peace, and the flow of living water
-
Purple — royalty, authority, and the kingship of Yahweh
-
Silver — redemption, purity, and refinement
These are not static wings—they carry the sense of movement between what is seen and unseen, earthly and heavenly.
The Invitation of the Image
“I am resting in the shadow of the Almighty.
He covers me with His feathers.
Under His wings I find refuge.”
This image is an invitation to rest.
To come out of striving.
To come into covering.
To dwell in the place where His presence surrounds and sustains.
