Lion Lamb
"Behold, the Lion of Judah, the Lamb who was slain, has triumphed."
The Story Behind the Image
This breathtaking digital painting depicts the Lion and the Lamb as one—a majestic figure with the golden mane of a lion and the pure white body of a lamb, standing in a cave of red rock. From His mouth emerges a translucent sword, representing the Word of God that pierces through darkness and divides truth from deception. A stream of blood runs down from Him, flowing over the red rocks—a vivid reminder of the sacrifice that purchased our redemption and the covenant sealed in His blood.
This is the mystery of the Gospel: He is both Lion and Lamb. He is the conquering King and the sacrificial servant. He is the One who roars in victory and the One who was silent before His accusers. He is the Judge who wields the sword of truth and the Savior whose blood cleanses us from all sin.
The Lion and the Lamb
Revelation 5 presents one of the most stunning images in all of Scripture. John sees a scroll sealed with seven seals, and no one in heaven or on earth is worthy to open it. He weeps—until the elder says, "Do not weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll."
But when John looks, he doesn't see a lion. He sees a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain (Revelation 5:6).
This is the paradox of Jesus Christ: He is both. The Lion conquered through the sacrifice of the Lamb. The Lamb reigns with the authority of the Lion. Strength and gentleness, power and humility, justice and mercy—all perfectly united in Him.
The Red Rock Cave
The red rock cave represents the place of sacrifice, the tomb carved from stone, and the covenant sealed in blood. The red rocks echo the blood of the Lamb—poured out, flowing down, covering the foundation. This is the place where death was defeated, where the grave could not hold Him, and where resurrection power was unleashed.
The cave is also a place of refuge and encounter—the secret place where we meet the Lion and the Lamb, where we are covered by His blood and hidden in the Rock.
The Sword from His Mouth
The translucent sword emerging from His mouth is the Word of God—sharp, powerful, and living. Revelation 19:15 declares, "Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations." Hebrews 4:12 says, "The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
The Lion and the Lamb does not wield a physical weapon—His weapon is His Word. He speaks, and nations fall. He declares, and darkness flees. He commands, and creation obeys.
The Stream of Blood
The stream of blood flowing down from Him is the most sacred image in this piece. It represents the blood of the Lamb that was shed on the cross, the blood that cleanses us from all sin, the blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Revelation 12:11 declares, "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." The blood is not just a symbol—it is the power of our redemption, the foundation of our victory, and the seal of the New Covenant.
The blood flows over the red rocks, staining the foundation, marking the place where heaven and earth meet, and declaring that the price has been paid.
Lion and Lamb, Conqueror and Sacrifice
This image is a declaration: He is both Lion and Lamb. He conquered through sacrifice. He reigns through humility. And His blood has made a way for us to stand before the throne.
