Light of Zion
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The Story Behind the Image
This prophetic artwork depicts a golden menorah burning brightly in an arched stone doorway in the Old City of Jerusalem. The seven flames illuminate the darkness, casting a warm glow on the ancient Jerusalem stone. Above the doorway, the Hebrew letters אהיה (Ehyeh - "I AM") are inscribed in gold, declaring the eternal name of God revealed to Moses at the burning bush.
This piece weaves together multiple layers of covenant history and prophetic symbolism. The menorah is one that burned during a Passover celebration in an upper room in the City of David—the very heart of ancient Jerusalem where King David established his throne and where the roots of Israel's covenant identity run deep.
The doorway is from a house in the Old City of Jerusalem, its ancient stones bearing witness to thousands of years of history, prayer, and the presence of God among His people. I have merged these elements and painted the spiritual story—a vision of covenant light burning in the place of covenant promise.
The Hebrew inscription אהיה (Ehyeh) above the doorway is the sacred name God spoke to Moses from the burning bush: "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14). It is the declaration of God's eternal, self-existent, unchanging nature. He is the I AM—the One who was, who is, and who is to come. The One who dwells with His people. The One whose presence is the light that never goes out.
The seven flames on the menorah represent the fullness of God's presence, the seven Spirits of the Lord, and the completeness of His covenant faithfulness. The light burns steadily in the darkness, refusing to be extinguished. This is the light that has burned through exile and return, through destruction and rebuilding, through persecution and preservation.
The Passover connection is deeply significant. Passover commemorates the night when the blood of the lamb on the doorposts protected God's people from death and set them free from slavery. It is the foundation of Israel's redemption story and the prophetic foreshadowing of Yeshua (Jesus), the Lamb of God, whose blood brings eternal freedom.
The arched doorway represents the threshold between the seen and unseen, the natural and the spiritual, the temporal and the eternal. It is an invitation to step into the presence of God, to enter the place where His light burns, and to encounter the I AM who dwells in Zion.
This image is a declaration: The light of God still burns in Zion. The I AM still dwells among His people. The covenant still stands. And the darkness cannot overcome it.
