Jerusalem Moonlight - New Covenant

The city of the Great King, bathed in the light of the moon—ancient, enduring, and held by covenant promise.

The Story Behind the Image

This breathtaking digital painting captures Jerusalem at twilight as the full moon rises over the Mount of Olives on March 24, 2024. The ancient city is illuminated by the soft glow of moonlight, the stone houses cascading down the hillside with their windows glowing warmly as the city settles into the quiet of evening. The deep blue sky, the silvery moonlight, and the golden lights of the city create a scene of stunning beauty and profound peace.

As this full moon rises over the Mount of Olives, it serves as a reminder of God's New Covenant with His people—a covenant written not on tablets of stone, but on hearts of flesh. A covenant that declares: "I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

Inspiration

It was an honor to be in Israel during the war. My desire is that God use the images birthed on this journey as "visual clarion calls," awakening God's people to RETURN TO THE LORD, and to remind God's children on the wall to give Yahweh no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the whole earth (Isaiah 62).

The Covenant Promise

Jeremiah 31 contains one of the most powerful covenant declarations in all of Scripture. God promises to make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah—not like the old covenant that was broken, but a covenant of the heart, a covenant of grace, a covenant that will never be revoked.

"I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be My people... For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." (Jeremiah 31:33-34)

But the covenant promise doesn't stop there. God goes on to declare that as long as the sun, moon, and stars remain in their fixed order, Israel will remain a nation before Him forever. The moonlight over Jerusalem is not just beautiful—it is a covenant sign, a visible reminder that God's promises to Israel are as fixed and unchanging as the heavens themselves.

"Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night... 'If this fixed order departs from before Me, declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before Me forever.'" (Jeremiah 31:35-36)

The Mount of Olives in the background is deeply woven into covenant history and prophetic promise. It is the place where Yeshua wept over Jerusalem, where He prayed in Gethsemane, where He ascended into heaven, and where He will return when He comes again (Zechariah 14:4).

This image is a declaration: The covenant stands. The moon still rises. Israel endures. And God's promises will not fail.

"Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah... I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be My people." — Jeremiah 31:31, 33

"Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night... 'If this fixed order departs from before Me, declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before Me forever.'" — Jeremiah 31:35-36

"For the sake of Zion I will not keep silent, for the sake of Jerusalem I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch." — Isaiah 62:1
