I Will Stand My Watch
"I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart."
The Story Behind the Image
This powerful digital painting depicts a crowned lion standing vigilant upon the ancient stone walls of Jerusalem under a starlit sky, while a bald eagle perches beside him—alert, poised, and ready. The golden glow of the city illuminates the weathered stones, and the Tower of David rises in the distance, inscribed with the words "Let us arise and build" from Nehemiah 2:18. Both the lion and the eagle stand as watchmen and intercessors—positioned on the ramparts, eyes fixed on the horizon, ready to engage in strategic-level spiritual warfare over the city, the nation, and the purposes of God.
The inscription declares Habakkuk 2:1a and Isaiah 45:3a:
"I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart." Yahweh says, "I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places."
This is a prophetic image of the watchman anointing—those who are called to stand guard, to intercede at the highest levels, to see what others cannot see, and to engage in strategic warfare over cities, nations, and generations.
The Lion and the Eagle: Watchmen on the Wall
The lion and the eagle in this image are not just symbols—they represent the intercessors and watchmen who have been positioned by God on the walls to stand guard, to pray, and to war in the Spirit. Both are alert, both are ready, and both are strategically positioned for battle.
The lion represents strength, authority, courage, and the roar of intercession that shakes the heavens and the earth. The lion does not retreat. The lion does not compromise. The lion stands firm on the wall, unmoved by the chaos below, and declares the purposes of God with boldness.
The eagle perched and ready represents vision, discernment, and the ability to see from heaven's perspective. The eagle is not soaring aimlessly—the eagle is positioned, alert, and prepared to strike. Eagles are known for their keen eyesight, their ability to spot threats from great distances, and their precision in battle. This is the watchman who sees what is coming, who discerns the strategies of the enemy, and who acts with precision and power.
Together, the lion and the eagle represent the perfect partnership of strength and vision, authority and discernment, roar and sight—the dual anointing of the watchman intercessor.
I Will Stand My Watch
Habakkuk 2:1 is the declaration of the watchman—the one who takes their position on the wall, who refuses to be distracted or discouraged, and who waits expectantly for the word of the Lord:
"I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint."
The watchman is not passive. The watchman is positioned, alert, and expectant. The watchman stands in the gap between heaven and earth, between what is and what will be, between the promise and the fulfillment.
This is the call to strategic-level intercession—not just praying for personal needs, but standing on the wall over cities, nations, and spiritual territories, discerning the times, and declaring the word of the Lord with authority.
Strategic-Level Spiritual Warfare
The watchmen on the ramparts are engaged in strategic-level spiritual warfare—the highest level of intercession and spiritual battle. This is not ground-level skirmishes—this is warfare over cities, nations, and principalities. This is the battle for the destiny of Jerusalem, the battle for the purposes of God over the nations, and the battle to see His Kingdom established on earth as it is in heaven.
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
The lion and the eagle are positioned on the ramparts of Jerusalem—the spiritual epicenter of God's covenant purposes. From this high place, they see the battle clearly, they discern the strategies of the enemy, and they release the word of the Lord that shifts atmospheres, breaks strongholds, and establishes the Kingdom.
The Ramparts of Jerusalem
The ancient stone walls of Jerusalem are not just historical landmarks—they are prophetic symbols of God's covenant promises over the city He loves. These walls have witnessed thousands of years of history—conquest and restoration, exile and return, destruction and rebuilding. Yet they still stand, illuminated by the golden light of God's presence, testifying that His promises over Jerusalem will not fail.
Isaiah 62:6-7 declares, "I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth."
This is the calling of the watchman—to never be silent, to give God no rest, and to stand on the wall until His purposes are fulfilled.
"Let Us Arise and Build"
Inscribed on the Tower of David are the words from Nehemiah 2:18: "Let us arise and build."
This is the rallying cry of the rebuilders—those who refuse to accept the ruins, who refuse to settle for broken walls, and who arise with courage and determination to rebuild what the enemy has destroyed.
Nehemiah stood before the broken walls of Jerusalem and declared, "Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace" (Nehemiah 2:17). And the people responded, "Let us start rebuilding" (Nehemiah 2:18).
The watchmen on the wall are also builders. They do not just stand guard—they rebuild, restore, and establish the purposes of God. They war in the Spirit, and they build in the natural. They intercede, and they act. They see the vision, and they arise and build.
The Starlit Sky and Treasures of Darkness
The starlit sky above the city represents the eternal nature of God's promises and the vastness of His purposes. The darkness of the night does not diminish the light of the stars—in fact, it makes them shine even brighter.
This is the promise of Isaiah 45:3: "I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name."
The treasures of darkness are the revelations that come in the night watches, the breakthroughs that emerge from the secret place, and the hidden strategies that God reveals to those who stand their watch. The watchman knows this truth: the darkest hour is just before the dawn. And those who stand their watch will see the treasures that others miss.
The Call to Watchmen and Intercessors
This image is a call to every intercessor, every watchman, every warrior in the Spirit who has been positioned on the wall to stand your watch and engage in strategic-level warfare. Do not grow weary. Do not abandon your post. Do not be distracted by the noise below.
Set yourself on the rampart like the lion—strong, courageous, unmoved. Perch like the eagle—alert, discerning, ready to strike. Arise and build like Nehemiah—refusing to accept the ruins and determined to see restoration.
The battle is real. The stakes are high. But the victory is certain. Stand your watch. War in the Spirit. And arise and build.
