Chesed - Covenant Love
The Hebrew word chesed cannot be reduced to simple affection. It speaks of covenant loyalty—steadfast mercy bound by promise.
The Story Behind the Image
This prophetic artwork depicts the Lion of Judah resting in regal majesty against a deep purple background, His golden mane glowing with divine light. At His feet lie pomegranates and flowers—symbols of abundance, fruitfulness, and covenant blessing. The Hebrew word חֶסֶד (chesed) is inscribed in gold, declaring the unfailing, covenant love of God.
Chesed is one of the most profound words in the Hebrew language. It is love that remains when circumstances shift, love rooted not in emotion but in covenant commitment. Throughout Scripture, chesed reveals the heart of God: enduring, faithful across generations, unrevoked. It is the love that pursues, the mercy that never fails, and the loyalty that cannot be broken.
As I created this piece, I sensed the Lord revealing a dimension of His nature that is both majestic and deeply secure. The Lion of Judah is not only King and Protector—He is covenant-keeping. His authority is anchored in faithfulness. His strength is governed by mercy.
The pomegranates at His feet carry their own covenant testimony. Woven into the garments of the priests and carved into the design of the Temple, they have long symbolized abundance, fruitfulness, and the richness of God's law and promise. Filled with countless seeds, they speak of generational blessing—covenant life multiplied, not diminished. Even beneath the Lion's majesty, there is promise that continues to bear fruit.
The purple background represents royalty, authority, and the kingship of Yahweh. The golden glow surrounding the Lion represents the Shekinah glory—the radiant presence of God that rests upon those who are in covenant with Him.
The Lion is steady. Watchful. Near.
His chesed does not falter when we falter.
It does not retreat in refining.
It does not loosen its hold.
Covenant love remains—and in that love, we are secure.
