The Story Behind the Image

Be Still

In a world that never stops moving, that constantly demands more, and that equates busyness with importance, God whispers a different invitation: "Be still."

The Hebrew word for "be still" is raphah, which means to let go, release, surrender, and cease striving. It's not just about physical stillness—it's about letting go of control, releasing anxiety, and surrendering the need to fix everything yourself.

The conch shell rests peacefully on the water, not fighting the current, not struggling to stay afloat—just resting. This is the posture God invites you into—trust, surrender, and rest.

And Know

The second part of the verse is equally important: "and know that I am God."

When you are still, when you stop striving and surrender control, you begin to know Him—not just know about Him, but experience His presence, His peace, and His power. You realize that He is in control. He is sovereign. He is faithful. And you can trust Him.

The reflection in the water symbolizes this truth—when you are still, you see clearly. The chaos and noise distort your vision, but stillness brings clarity. In the stillness, you see who He is, and you remember who you are in Him.

The Conch Shell

The conch shell is a beautiful symbol of God's creation—intricate, delicate, and uniquely designed. It was formed over time, shaped by the ocean, and now rests peacefully on the water. In the same way, God is shaping you—through the seasons, through the pressures, through the waves—and He is forming something beautiful.

The soft pink and coral tones represent gentleness, warmth, and the tender love of God. He is not harsh or demanding. He is gentle and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29), and He invites you to come to Him and find rest.

The Still Water

The still water represents the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). When the water is still, the reflection is clear. When your heart is still, you can see and hear God more clearly.

Psalm 23:2 says, "He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul." The still water is not stagnant—it is refreshing, life-giving, and restorative. This is what happens when you are still in His presence—your soul is refreshed.

An Invitation to Rest
